This friendly group meets monthly in Balsall Common Village Hall on the 4th Thursday between 2:00 - 4:30 pm. Members contribute £3 per meeting to cover its costs which include hiring the hall, refreshments, external judges and speakers. Our aim is to enjoy, through self-help learning principles, opportunities to improve our photographic skills by sharing members’ interests, abilities and experiences. These include: “seeing” and “composing” the picture; taking it correctly using whatever camera you own and the production of images (digital and print). Every month we hold a competition on a theme where prints and projected digital images are assessed by either by members of the group or a visiting judge (the latter usually quarterly). Often there is a talk on a photographic skill or a “hands on” workshop, all of which are shown in this year’s programme below.
Exhibitions of members’ prints are held in Balsall Common Library twice a year and their photographs can also be seen in “The Bugle.” During the lockdown the u3a National Office held fortnightly competitions and many of our members’ images have been selected. These can be viewed by clicking here. If you are interested, please come along to one of our meetings where you will be warmly welcomed or alternatively contact the coordinator using the link below.
